There is a very small place in Grahm Texas called The Lost Cafe that I have to say is the best i've had in Texas. Black's was good, and I like Ironworks in Austin, but The Lost Cafe takes the cake, so to speak.

Well said Billy. It is easy to be indifferent about this subject UNTIL you are personally affected. As our population grows, so does the chance of be affected by a "taking for the public good." Unless we continue to insist on fair treatment for private property owners, the only true property rights we may have left will be to pay the taxes!

Insuring crops in Texas is such a risky business that if a farmer paid the full premium for their coverage, the premium would almost equal the coverage. If you had a $200,000 home, would you $160,000 per year to insure it? Most likely not. To keep the food on the grocery shelves, we have to keep the Family Farmer in the field. Crop insurance does just that and we must keep it strong and affordable.

Illogical idiocy. These are the animal rights groups that need to become educated on conservation efforts and not base decisions on feelings. They are hurting conservation efforts by not educating themselves. Sigh....

Si, for me it was looking over the garden, amazed at how much greater results I get from a good rain shower from heaven than all my work at irrigating from the well. I can water from the well enough to keep the vegetable plants alive, but let the Lord send a good shower, and I swear those plants start smiling and growing right before my very eyes!
And I too, have a tin roof on my back porch.... where the dog, the cat, and I smile and watch the garden praising God for the wonderful rain.

Well okay Fred, not much to argue with there. Of course, Castro replaced a regime every bit as corrupt and totalitarian as his. And there are regimes around the world with soiled human rights reputations. We trade with a bunch of them. So why this embargo against a regime with few resources to make mischief while trading with all the others. Thanks for posting. This issue deserves to be discussed. - Gene

Fidel Castro is a controversial and divisive world figure, lauded as a champion of anti-imperialism, humanitarianism, socialism and environmentalism by his supporters, but viewed as a dictator who has overseen multiple human rights abuses by his critics. :^

Martin, thanks for adding your perspective. Texas Farm Bureau has never said that NO action should be taken. A few amendments to this bill or the Oliveria bill might be viewed differently. However, this bill, 2748, reduces this process to practically a "drive by" status. A little basic respect for these landowners and a close look at internal procedures would not hurt the pipeline industry. We heard too much of "we are taking it because we can" or there to not be some substance to it. Thanks for the post. We may have more opportunity to discuss.

There are other considerations not being brought here. Yes I work for a pipeline company and yes we have the right of eminent domain, but it is I promise you used as a means of last resort. Most of the problems encountered are NOT with small land owners but with land owners who are trying to keep their smaller neighbors gas from going to market. When condemnation procedures begin, it is nasty for all concerned
