All vegetarian by 2050? Not so fast

All vegetarian by 2050? Not so fast

By Gene Hall

Bad news, meat lovers: We’ll all be vegetarians by the year 2050 because we’ll run out of water to produce livestock. That’s the theory in this article on Yahoo.

These sweeping and absolute statements can be a lot more about someone’s agenda than futuristic forecasting. When you see something like this, you should ask, “Who doesn’t want anyone eating meat?” Or, “Who wants a grant to study livestock and water supplies?”

The farce of ‘Meatless Monday’ – and other animal rights fantasies

The farce of ‘Meatless Monday’ – and other animal rights fantasies

By Gene Hall

I sometimes enjoy a bowl of broccoli soup, rice and beans (though they’re a lot better with ham) or other non-meat fare.  I make it a point to never do this on PETA’s and HSUS’s pointless holiday, Meatless Monday.  Perhaps I would reconsider if HSUS joined me in Sirloin Saturday, Filet Mignon Friday, T-Bone Tuesday, Chicken and Dumplings Sunday or Pork Chop Wednesday.  Sorry, I couldn’t alliterate the last two.

A new kids’ book called Vegan is Love is unquestionably a clever promotion for the vegan lifestyle. You can find many descriptions of veganism. Pick the one you like. Here is mine: “A vegan is a vegetarian who is also an evangelist for the cause…determined that much of the world will eat in the way they do.”

If eating meat is a sin…

Sin Tax on meat eatersBy Mike Barnett
If eating meat is a sin, then I guess I’m going to Hell. The new vegan theology spouted by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is that eating meat is a vice and that meat eaters should be penalized the same as smokers and drinkers by paying a “sin” or excise tax.

Meat eating a vice? The *#@! you say!

In a recent article in The Huffington Post, PETA Vice President of Policy Bruce Friedrich suggested Congress issue a 15-cent levy on Americans for every pound of chicken, turkey, pork, fish and beef sold in grocery stores and restaurants, as well as a tax on each dairy item and carton of eggs.

Consumers will decide the future of food

Consumer driven local foods, farmers markets and food coopsBy Mike Barnett

When it comes to writing about the food we eat, I’ve been accused of being a cantankerous unsustainable troublemaking vegan-baiting agitating unnatural radical anti-local high fructose corn syrup-loving malcontent. And those are just the nice things said about me.

Truth is I don’t have a problem with anyone who doesn’t agree with me. I don’t have problems with the different food movements. It doesn’t matter much what they believe or what I think because the consumer is always right.
